How Brooke Can help

Brooke works to help each individual to access his or her own sense of agency over their own bodies and lives. She believes that people have everything they need within themselves to move towards healing. Her hope is to help you find your own innate ability to heal through a variety of therapeutic techniques integrating principals from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Attachment Theory, and The Twelve Steps.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) offers the opportunity to recognize the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behavior. CBT builds skills in modifying the effects of dysfunctional thinking patterns, assisting in changing our behavioral patterns and coping with stressors in a more positive manner.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing, or SE® for short, is a naturalistic form of healing that will help you learn how to settle and release physiological activation from your body. SE utilizes the latest research on the connection between the brain and the body. Very often this process helps people to reduce stress and return to a sense of regulation and mastery in their lives.  SE will support you in learning how to attend to uncomfortable sensations in your body and gently unwind them through your conscious attention.  SE is particularly useful in managing stress because so many of the symptoms are physiological.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy emphasizes the effects of early relationships in the formation of our sense of self and our relationships to others. The relationship between therapist and client may be utilized and explored as an instrument of change.

attachment theory

Attachment Theory describes how the functional relationship between a parent or primary caregiver and a child within the first three years of life:

  • Impacts the developing brain
  • Contributes to a sense of trust in self and others
  • Supports the experience of safety in the world

Regardless of the therapeutic approach Brooke is utilizing, the impact of early attachment on the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual development of clients is the foundation of her work.

twelve Steps

When working with issues related to addiction (drugs, alcohol, relationships, etc...), Brooke will incorporate 12-Step principals and guidelines.
